April Fools! Ultimate Drink Challenge

Right in time for April Fools Day, I give you, the Naga Chilli Vodka Challenge (but please, please don't prank anyone with this)

With all the flavored liquors out there, it was inevitable that someone would infuse the spicy bite of peppers into vodka. A company called Master of Malt in England, sells a vodka infused with the hottest pepper in the world the Naga Bhut Jolokia chili pepper, also known as the Ghost Pepper. The infused product is measured at 100,000 Scoville heat units (SHU), the unit used to measure the heat of a pepper. This is bang your head against the wall kind of heat. A jalapeƱo is 2,500-8,000 SHU's.

Naga Chilli Vodka
They also offer a 250,000 SHU vodka
but please forget about trying that one.
It's simply death in a bottle.
So here it goes...
1 oz Naga Chilli Vodka
3 oz Orange Juice
Serve in a Collins glass or rocks glass
Drink as quick as possible
Good Luck!!

I have not tasted this vodka, but I have watched some brave souls downing this drink from hell. It's not a pretty sight.

If you go against my wishes and decide to prank your friend with this drink, it will make any prank they have up their sleeve look like a fluffy bunny rabbit. So again, just don't.

Have a Fun April Fools and drink your chilli vodka responsibly.

It's Not Easy Being Green.

St. Patrick’s Day, a religious day in Ireland that celebrates the arrival of Christianity has a completely different focus here in the USA. For one day we all turn Irish, get drunk and wear green hats and beads. We drink green beer, and many of us end up looking a little green the next morning. Come on, we've all been there. This is our American tradition...

Holy Clover!!

St. Patrick’s Day, a day of drinking and celebrating in the United States, filled with green beer, Guinness, Harp and Irish whiskey. Bars all over the country create Irish themed drinks to celebrate this holiday, but not many of them would make you stop and say “DAMN!! That’s good!” I want to share one of my favorite recipes that will make you do just that...

A Summer of Sweet Wines

The guests at many big parties in Washington DC take a lot of pride in their wine knowledge. Sweet white wines like Riesling and Moscato were rarely found at events in the past and when they were available people chose other options.

Well times have changed

Happy Cinco De Mayo!

Another bartender holy day has arrived. A Mexican celebration that is frankly over the top here in the good ol' USA. We have borrowed another country's holiday (again) for the purpose of having one hell of a great party. And it gets better every year.

One thing we have taken from our neighbor to the south is

It's April Fool's Day, Fancy a Drink?

On April 1st, people always look for jokes to play on a friend. This is where I come in. I have two drinks that come to mind. One is naughty and the other is nice.

First, let's be naughty. This drink is the recipe for the ultimate April Fool's joke. The drink is called The Cement Mixer. Many experienced bartenders will laugh just by its mention.

It has just two ingredients, Baileys Irish Cream and lime juice. They both taste fine individually, but they get

The Skinny on Spring Drinks

Welcome to Spring break. Which in my book, officially kicks off swimsuit season. This means trying to shed a few pounds.

So now the question I'm asked is, "What are some good drinks that won't hurt the waistline?"

Enter: The SkinnyGirl Margarita. This was popularized by reality TV star Bethenny Frankel, who has a bit of

Four Lucky Irish Drinks!

For St. Patrick's Day, I gave up the green beer and gimmicky drinks years ago. I am a lot more distinctive about the cocktails I drink these days especially on one of the bartenders holiest days of the year. If I’m gonna get my drink on, I’m at least going to enjoy the ride. Here are some great drink

Hail the mighty Margarita!

February 22, National Margarita Day! What kind of drink is it that is so enrapturing that it deserves its own day?

Amazing drink, the margarita. Stories of its creation go back to the early 1940's, but my personal gut feeling as a bartender is that versions of this drink have been served to grateful bar patrons for a lot longer that that. The concept for the recipe itself is so basic, any tequila, some kind of orange brandy or liquor and lime juice, that there are probably many originators.
